                   SECOND GRADE NEWS

FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 30, 2010

First Week:  We had a wonderful start to the new school year!  I am so impressed with the way the children are already adjusting to our classroom routines—they’re a great group!!

Rainy Days:  Please be sure your child has an umbrella or rain poncho in their backpack for rainy days—we leave the building for Chapel and special area each day!    

Headphones:  Please be sure you send in headphones for your child for the computer lab if you haven’t done so already—thanks!

Lunches:  September pre-ordered lunches begin Wednesday.

Yearbook Photos:  All students will be photographed this Wednesday, September 1^st., for the C.C.S. yearbook.  You will have the option to purchase a photo package.  

Attendance: Everyone has been so punctual—keep up the good work!  Just a reminder-we take attendance at 8:20 a.m. each morning.  Please accompany your child to the office to sign in if you arrive later than that.

Mom’s Coffee:  Please remember our Mom’s Coffee next Wednesday, September 8^th., from 7-8 p.m.  We will gather in the classroom and enjoy an evening of fun and fellowship.  Light refreshments will be served—hope to see you!

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS

Math: Addition facts-doubles to 18; identifying the attributes of pattern blocks; identifying ordinal position to sixth; creating and reading a repeating pattern; identifying and acting out some, some more stories; comparing numbers to 50; and comparing and ordering numbers by size (area).

Language Arts:  Story:  “Story Hour Starring Megan”  Skills:  Complete sentences;  short and long vowels; predicting outcomes; compare and contrast; and vocabulary words.
