Mark 12:30-31 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength…Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these.”
Parent Coffee
Our coffee will be held in my classroom this Thursday, September 9th at 6:30 p.m. I hope all of you can attend!
Mandatory 5th grade Parent Meeting
Please plan ahead for our Space Camp/Adolescents meeting on Monday, September 21st at 6:30 p.m. in the library. Mrs. Schoolfield will be addressing you about this stage in your child’s life and we will discuss Space Camp.
A delicious way to support CCS:
Cookie dough sales will begin on Wednesday, September 8.
Please watch for catalog and order forms to come home with your child(ren) on that day.
Your family and friends can enjoy yummy cookies and help CCS at the same time! The collection date will be September 22nd.
Book Reports
Please note that the students are to do a “Sandwich Book Report” for their September book report project. They must use construction paper and markers (or dark colored pencils) for this project. Specific directions for the assignment went home today. Please ask your child about this. It should be in their binder. Book reports are due Thursday, September 30th.
Academic Highlights:
Math:
This week we will be working with missing addends and story problems. Our test will be tomorrow and will cover lessons 1-10.
Language Arts:
We will continue in our Reading Unit with the story “The Marble Champ,” and have a comprehension test on Thursday. The students have been given comprehension questions to use as a study guide. Although we read the story aloud in class last week, students are encouraged to read the story again at home for reinforcement.
In spelling, we will be working on Lesson 3. The students will be tested Friday on these spelling words. You may use spellingcity.com as a resource for practice, but please do not use it as a study guide. Some of the words are not recognized on the site. Be sure to refer to the spelling book when studying.
In writing, Target Skills are still our focus for this week. We will practice “painting a word picture” and we will be learning about color words and strong verbs.
In Shurley Grammar, the students will be learning about punctuation rules/editing and analogies.
Bible:
We will be studying Abraham this week. We are currently memorizing Mark 12:30-31. Please use the verse at the top of this letter to study. I will listen to the students recite this verse on Friday, September 17th.
Geography:
We are wrapping up our study of maps this week. Our test will be this Thursday. Students should study a few minutes each night. Study guides are due tomorrow.
