SECOND GRADE NEWS

FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 6th

New Student: We would like to welcome Jaden German to our class.  Attached to your newsletter you will find a new class roster.

Library Schedule: We will begin Library Wednesday, September 15^th.  Schedule: September 15 &29  October 14 (Book Fair the week of Oct. 25-29), November 4 &18 and December 2 & 16.  Our Library time is 2:10 every other Wednesday.

Parent’s Coffee: Our coffee is this Wednesday at 7p.m. in our classroom.

Reading Homework: Please have your child read out loud when reading is assigned.  Make sure they read with expression and read smoothly.  Please have your child re-read if not smooth the first time.

Stinky Feet Reading: Every Friday afternoon we have Stinky Feet reading.  Students can bring a book from home to read or choose a classroom book.

Literature: The first theme in our Literature book is Sharing Stories.  Children learn that through reading they can have many adventures and go many places.  The students can bring in their favorite book to share.

Bible: We have been studying Moses for the last two weeks and will be finishing up this week. We have talked about character traits of diligence and humbleness. We also related these traits to our lives and contrasted humble/proud.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS

Math: time one hour from now and one hour ago, commutative property of addition, some;some went away stories, addition facts, assessments

Language Arts: Story –“Ant and the Three Little Figs.”   Skills – Complete sentences; synonyms; antonyms;  predicting outcomes; compare and contrast; vocabulary words.
