5th Graders Blast Off To Space Camp
Plunging through the atmosphere, jumping from planet to planet, and gliding through space, fifth graders from Community Christian School were thrilled to participate in Space Camp last month.
Space Camp is the "U.S. Space and Rocket Center" in Huntsville, Ala., where children go to learn more about space and experience what it is like to live as an astronaut. The students' most recent unit of study focused on space, and the trip to Space Camp tied in nicely with what their teachers, Jeanne Thon and Ashley Bowman had taught them.
The day before the fifth graders "blasted off" from CCS to Alabama, their teachers wore space suits to school as a way of demonstrating enthusiasm for the trip. The children also made rockets and launched them outside their classrooms. The excitement was palpable as the students anticipated this much talked-about adventure.

CCS is now offering customized enrollment!
Community Christian School elementary customized enrollment program offers three different options this year. For grades 1-5, we offer the Enrichment Program from 9-11 on T/Th. For 5th graders we offer the Essentials Program which is Math, Language Arts and Bible M-F mornings. We also have 'Exploring Science', which is a science class for 4th and 5th graders on T/Th afternoons. For information on elementary school customized enrollment click here.
